HARRY WINSTON: THE JOURNEY OF THE KING OF DIAMONDS TO MOSCOW

The life of the founder of the House of Harry Winston, whose name it proudly bears, has always been shrouded in mystery. In the pockets of the jeweler  hundreds of carats of precious stones were often hidden, thus his insurance company forbade him to pose for pictures — in the surviving photographs one can see only the enigmatic shape of his body. And to become familiar with works of the brand was possible only by appointment until recently — otherwise strangers from the street couldn’t get inside. It’s not surprising that when the first official flagship of Harry Winston was opened in late November at Stoleshnikov Lane, the Moscow jewelry scene lost its quietude.

The jewelry of the brand is universal — it does not matter whether we are talking about solitaire rings with a diamond of a few dozen carats or laconic charm bracelets — both the firsts and seconds are enough in the boutique’s range. In recent years, the designers of the brand slightly moved away from the purely classical forms. For example, the mosaic pendant, bracelet and ring from the «Secrets» collection can be worn in two ways: the central element of it is a flip-flop medallion, one side of which is inlayed with diamonds only, and the second one, with a combination of sapphires and aquamarines. In fact, it looks like an anti-crisis proposal: you buy one piece of jewelry, but get two! However, the House does not forget about its historical «codes» either – among the most favorite cuts there is still the «emerald» one, and the famous «Winston Cluster» shines in both Haute Joaillerie pieces as well as in more budget-friendly versions. They represent diamonds of various shapes and cuts, set in a barely noticeable platinum frame and fixed at different angles to each other, outwardly resembling a Christmas wreath. By the way, for its seventy-year history, the «Winston Cluster” has received the glory of the «little black dress» of the jewelry world. All this only confirms the timeless luxury of the brand.
