The Spanish House of Carrera y Carrera has been standing out for almost half a century in the jewelry world. Despite the fact that the brand was founded 130 years ago, its trademark style was received only in 70s. It happened when the great-grandchildren of its founder, two cousins — the already famous sculptor Manuel and excellent cutter Juan Jose — connected their names, knowledge and talents for the sake of the family business.
Carrera y Carrera mini-sculptures
The most famous technique of Carrera y Carrera is a combination of matte and glossy surfaces in tiny mini-sculptures that “play” in the sun. As the head of the brand, Manuel Carrera immediately decided to implement the notion of using the principles and ideas of sculpture in jewelry. In fact, he did not change the type of activity, but at times reduced the size of his work and switched to a much more valuable material instead of clay. So the young man began to create, almost completely ignoring the global precious fashion. His pendants, rings, earrings and bracelets were original and dissimilar to any others. Of course, the stylistic and technical independence bore the sweetest fruit — gradually the whole world began talk about it!
Playing with symbols
Over the 130-year history the House has worked with many motifs and symbols. For instance, the already iconic Círculos de Fuego line is dedicated to the dragon — a mythical emblem of strength and power. As for other examples, the carnation flowers in the “Claveles” collection are an association with a great nobility and aristocracy. The Bamboo is the mascot of inner strength. The charming frogs of Mi Musa tell the story of love between Manuel Carrera and his wife Marina. And Universo is about the old travel diary, discovered by the designers of the brand in the old second-hand bookstore.
Most of Carrera y Carrera’s items are dedicated to the great Spain. Here is the “Ruedo”, inspired by the bullfights and the traditional clothing of the bullfighter. Then there’s the Palacios Del Sur, which opens the mixed culture of the south of Spain. The designers did not even forget about the vine. It is the national emblem of the country, which was recreated in gold in La Viña collection.
In anticipation of the new season the MARGO RAFFAELLI team visited the Moscow office of Carrera y Carrera to recall the most significant collections of the brand, and with their own experience, to ensure its universality. After all, there are pieces for everyone: young girls and adult women, for going out and walking in the park, everyday working, and even a romantic rendezvous. You just need be in touch with your feelings to make a choice.
